Aversive stimulus properties of lacquer thinner, an industrial solvent
Main Article Content
Abstract
A recent research (Vila & Colada, 1981) on the stimulus properties oflacquerthinner found that neither a 15-nora 30-mm exposurc pesiad to this solvent produced a conditioned aversion to saccharin. Since ira that experiment the inhalation route was employed, dic present study used a similar procedure but with the intraperitoneai route. 36 water-depri¬ved albino rata were divided in 6 groups asid subjected to dic following pairings: Oroup A:saccharin arad 1 ml/kg thinner; Oroup B: saccharin arad 2 ml/kg thinner; Group C: saccharin asid 3 ml/kg thinner; Oroup D: saccharin asid 2 ml/kg salme; Oroup E: water asid 2 ml/kg thinner; arad Group F: saccharin and 2 ml/kg oil. The lacquer thinner was adrninistered ira a dosis oil solution that was employed for Group F. After five conditioning trials, a test session was carried out: only Groups A, E y C showed a conditioned aversion to saccharin. It was concludcd that lacquer thinraer has aversive stimulus properties when the intraperi¬toneal route is employed witb dic conditioncd taste aversmon paxadigm.
