Abstract

The article analyzes the implications of the economic convergence in the journalism industry in two dimensions of the news process: in the professional interaction in the newsrooms, and in journalists’ professional culture. To this end, the study case of the Mexican conglomerate Grupo Imagen is presented, the first to implement what is known as the journalistic convergence in multiple media platforms, which modifies substantially the news production and work routines. These changes, a product of the market’s preponderance and the digitalization detonated at the end of the Twentieth Century, which can affect diverse productive branches, in journalism, activity with social relevance and key to the construction of the public opinion, produces non-stop information of limited context that works as a counter-power at the top of its democratic consolidation process.
