La investigación histórica del “tiempo presente” en Alemania

Abstract

The author analyzes German historiography’s trajectory focused, primarily, on the “present time”: 1945-1990. To achieve this, he breaks down, describes and compares the main subjects touched during the period in which they once were, both, the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Thus, he concentrates on the rise of historical research institutions —especially those emerging after the fall of the Berlin Wall— their goals, problems, subject matter and working methods. The article continues with political-historical controversy rising in unified Germany due to new interpretations on the holocaust and the national socialism regime. The author closes with a brief commentary on German historiography’s present situation and its new focus and perspective.
