Abstract

In this article, the author configures a typology of the historic character of the role and the sense being intellectual before a civilian, political and cultural society in Mexico during this century. Also, she reviews the evolution of this character and its coincidences and differences with the political class and sets forth a few elementary basis for the understanding of the factors that determine the intellectual’s participation in society’s political and cultural life. Furthermore, the article also analyzes the intellectual’s responsibility—as transmitters and spreaders of ideas— before the social and political conditions of the Mexican ’68, as well as its diagnoses disciplinary orientations and combat fronts before such a traumatic event. Lastly, she concludes her analysis exposing the attitudes and reflections of Mexican intellectuals before today’s political problems.
