Abstract

This paper aims to provide elements that enrich the debate on the usefulness of the temporary cut in International Relations established in the Peace of Westphalia. To this end, a historical overview of diplomacy from the ancient world to 1648 is made, which shows that diplomatic tools such as those used to reach the peace treaties of Osnabrück and Münster were developed from antiquity in the four civilizational foci of Eurasia. Then, this knowledge was synthesized in Constantinople and returned to Europe through Venice. The relevance of this work is linked to its inclusion in the debate on the periodicity of the object of study in International Relations and the history of this discipline.

Erik Damián Reyes Morales, Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales

Erik Damián Reyes Morales es licenciado en Relaciones Internacionales por la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales. Cuenta con un máster en Estudios Hispánicos por la Universidad de Cádiz y la maestría y el doctorado en Historia por la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras y el Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas de la UNAM. Desde 2007 es profesor de asignatura en la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, en donde actualmente realiza su estancia posdoctoral. Es miembro del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores como Candidato a Investigador Nacional y su principal línea de investigación se centra en el empleo de las herramientas de análisis de las Relaciones Internacionales en el mundo antiguo, en particular en el México Prehispánico. Su tesis doctoral, el Códice Colhuacan, es la reconstrucción del códice histórico de la nobleza de Mexico-Tenochtitlan a partir de la Geografía Humana, la Geopolítica y el Pensamiento Geopolítico.
