Chile in crisis: the “social outbreak” of 2019, its origins and consequences

Abstract

This article presents a narrative and an explanation of the social crisis that has touched Chile since October 2019. The author argues that the explanation for the phenomenon lies in a set of elements, among which are those that are typical of economies that experience accelerated growth processes with an acute predominance of the market, as well as the loss of the effectiveness of the policy in the country. The recovery of the capacity for dialogue and consensus-seeking, which allows the solution of priority problems, is proposed as the alternative to the continuation of the crisis.
