Abstract

This paper is a literature review showing different instruments to measure the prevalence and the risk of caries. Just as the diagnostic aspects of hides and interproximal caries. Instruments to measure the prevalence of caries are the traditional epidemiological indices (DMFT, DMFS, dmft, ceos and their derivatives). Show the past history of decay and measure the degree to which it is manifested. They are useful to evaluate changes in time. To predict the development of the disease have been proposed different systems caries risk prediction, which aim to identify and classify the risk. The visual and radiographic methods as essential elements for the diagnosis of interproximal and hides caries, exposing their advantages and disadvantages.
