Abstract
THE OSTEOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE FLOUNDER CITHARICHTHYS SPILOPTERUS SHOWS A REMARKABLE FLATTING AND VERTICAL ELONGATION OF THE MAJORITY OF THE BONES, EXCEPT THOSE OF THE NEUROCRANIUM. THE OUTSTANDING ASYMMETRY OF THE NEUROCRANIUM IS A RESULT OF THE MIGRATION OF THE RIGHT EYE. A FALSE OCULAR ORBIT IN THE LEFT MESOPTERYGOID IS FORMED. THERE ARE ONLY RIGHT SUBORBITALS. THE SUPRAOCCIPITAL HAS SMALL ALVEOLUS FOR SOME OF THE FIRST DORSAL PTERYGIOPHORES. IN THE SCAPULAR GIRDLE, ACTINOSTS ARE REDUCED, AS WELL AS THE POSTCLEITRUM. HAEMAL ARCHES IN SOME PRECAUDAL VERTEBRAE ARE PRESENT.
