Abstract
From the perspective of health professionals, diabetes should not cause in those who suffer it the ravages it currently generates, because all that is needed to control it is a balanced diet, physical activity, intake of medicines and avoid risk behaviors, aspects that are displayed as easily achievable, however, they are complicated in the daily lives of the sick, which is evident among the cane cutters of Mata Clara and El Manantial, communities belonging to the municipality of Cuitláhuac, Veracruz, where the harvest, the main economic activity, opposes to the treatment of diabetes because it impedes these people from feeding is consistently with the medical prescription. As a strenuous activity, it does not allow to carry out a plan for physical exercise; it also promotes alcohol consumption, which is contraindicated for people suffering from this disease.
