Abstract

This article presents a number of elements to analyse the impact of globalisation on daily life by studying eating habits in a rural town undergoingurbanisation. The food, ideas and consumption practices of this population help to understand how the food culture of a human group is constructedin the interrelation of macro- and micro-social factors. We call this process domesticating globalisation, that is, the way in which new foods, aswell as the information about them, are managed, incorporated and adapted to daily life in the context of progress and development.
