Abstract

In the recent cultural debate in Cuba, on the subject of the repressive policy of the seventies, the Cuban architect Mario Coyula was an outstanding participant, delivering the presentation that we reproduce here, in which he reflects on the effect of that policy upon Cuban cities and contemporary architecture. That dark decade which damaged so many other intellectual activities, according to Coyula, started even earlier in architecture and is not yet over, being related to increased mediocrity which represses as suspicious any individual creative act.
