Abstract

We hereby analyze certain demographic indicators of three rural communities located within the upper San Marcos river basin, in Puebla’s Sierra Norte. Population growth in the last 50 years is emphasized as well as current demographic aspects of fertility and mortality. Starting from data obtained through surveys, we carried out a comparison between the composition of the families, understood as the basic organizational unit of survival and reproduction, and the general socioeconomic conditions of each community.
