Abstract

The facial polygon was traced on the lateral pictures of 200 men and 200 women who have been included in our project La cara del mexicano. All the faces of the subjects had been oriented in the auriculo-orbital plane, which is equivalent to the Frankfort plane in the cranium. Over the pictures we drew four straight lines: porion-nasion, pronasal-interlabial and interlabial-porion. Once the polygon was established, we measured three angles, which were analyzed statistically, and enabled us to distinguish the categories of each person’s profile and compare the results found among men and women.

With the evaluation of such results, we are evaluating if the proposed polygon is useful to analyze the profile of living persons, in the same way that Klaatsch’s polygon is used in the cranium.
