Abstract

This article explains how obesity, as a result of an imbalance between caloric ingestion and burning up, causes psychological and social implications that influence their self concept and sexual functioning. Overweight and obesity duplicate the risk of suffering from sexual dysfunctions. In Mexico, obese people show a greater difficulty to express their feelings and needs to their partners, as well as greater sense of guilt and less satisfaction after sexual relations. Also, it emphasizes sexual health as an important part both in physical and mental well-being, since obesity does not have to be a condition preventing a satisfactory sexual life.
