Una aproximación al estudio de la migración y las remesas en México

Abstract

The author establishes the importance of migration and remittances as phenomena that must be studied in an interdisciplinary way. This article shows historical aspects which have an influence in the building-up of migratory routes and the flux of remittances, trying to place in their right dimensions the roles of social networks, as well as xenophobic reactions and demographic issues in developed societies. In order to do that, this article is based on the current study of migrations, assuming there is a possibility to take advantage of its “benefits” and extending them to those who are involved as a whole: the origin societies as well as those of destiny, and also the immigrants themselves. Besides, it analyzes the remittances sent to Mexico and the different companies that transfer money and have a strong both world-wide and national recognition.
