Abstract

Punitive policies are strategies created by the State to punish people who break the law, but this punishment also harms their families. In this paper we will refer to the punitive policies are deployed in social reintegration centers. The way in which the State carries out its punitive action to maintain “order” has a strong impact on the families of those who are deprived of their liberty. This reflection was elaborated with the intention of making known the way in which the State, in its eagerness to punish “crime”, affects the families and communities to which they belong, subjecting them to live a wearing process with long-lasting effects because they are families that already had disadvantages before their family member was deprived of liberty, generating more violence on those sectors that cannot be integrated into a neoliberal society that excludes them.
