YUCATAN LIFE OF WORKERS ON THE HACIENDAS DURING THE HENEQUEN BOOM: REIFICATION, SLAVERY AND MISERY
Main Article Content
Abstract
The present work describes and exposes the life of the workers in the haciendas that produce henequen fiber in Yucatan with a critical approach and exhibits the difficulties that arose, starting from slavery as the main problem. A thorough tour is made of aspects that favor the worsening of the situation of the henequen industry. Also, the problems that directly affected the true forgers of the wealth of Yucatan will be examined: the workers, and their families, who paradoxically did not live in a sumptuous environment; on the contrary, poverty was their current reality. Forced labor and the few alternatives they had made up this inhumane environment. With this, we will unmask years of falsehood imposed by the privileged class and show the actual situation from which this region suffered.
