Abstract

This article discusses the fact that the public sphere is a space constituted by social interaction, discursive practices and communication media. It also proposes, contrasting the Greek polis where public life is placed in the agora and the logos, and the public sphere of the modern Nation-State that constitutes an autonomous “social space” distinct from private space, which now constitutes the intimate sphere, nowadays public space is found fragmented in communicative structured spaces. At last, it gets on with the thesis that television creates a public sphere that subverts the traditional dichotomies Private/public, male/female.
