Abstract

This essay examines the existence of a rural civil society in Mexico. There is a basic link that joins the urban way of life with the notion of civil society. The opposition city- field has limited the recognition of genuine forms of rural collective action. The specialized literature on the civil society has ignored the pacific organization of sectors of the rural citizenship to obtain other aims that are not agricultural or the cancellation of an industrial project in his territory. In spite of this situation, we show that the organizations of the rural civil society are not always local expressions of an urban project.
