Abstract

The purpose of the following essay is to provide a systematic introduction to the “extended cognition” hypotheses –presented by philosophers of the mind Andy Clark and David Chalmers (1998)– and the “exobrain” hypothesis –presented by the anthropologist and sociologist Roger Bartra (2012)–. In the essay, I will rescue points in common between both hypotheses and I will conclude that the two theoretical proposals which come from different disciplines -such as Philosophy and Anthropology– are compatible and complement each other in topics such as the use of language and the use of artifacts.
