Abstract

This article offers an analysis of the level of development reached by the Cuban society with respect to political participation in the new millennium through constitutive moments in the participation process (opinion, aggregated demands, proposals, decision making, democratic control and evaluation). It considers the various components of the political system and the people’s participation in the political process to accomplish goals. To get a culture of political participation two things must happen: people must get involved in the process and political actors must be willing to take public roles. Participation is key and an asset to the Revolution. Political participation meshes in with education to engender knowledge, and it allows the promotion of alternatives in the social science field. Consequently, democratic participation should not be conceived as a socialist-transitional strategy; it should be seen as a goal.
