Of the self- mobilization: middle classes and political action

Abstract
This article examines a middle-class group in Mexico and analyzes its role by looking at three central themes: 1) the political struggle of middle-class professionals who were not interested in politics up until 1994; 2) Analysis of self-definition of middle-class group in conjunction with such important factors as prestige, education level and lifestyle, and 3) How middle-class people appear to be more inclined to engage in political activity. This paper looks into the El Barzón Metropolitano (Cuautitlán Izcalli sector) movement.
