Abstract

There exist a non-mechanical relation, perhaps procedural, between peasant movements in Latin America. Rural organizations desire the establishment of an advanced-form of democracy, they want to create substantive mechanisms of participation, and they aspire a shared-decison-making process.Discussing alternatives to social development is, without a doubt, another of their contributions. This paper considers the coffe-growers organization case in Mexico. It is tied to the 2002 and 2003 peasant movement Despite the difficulties of fulfilling internal compromises, the group shows solidarity within its members, while improvising life standards.
