Abstract
This paper analyzes the negotiation process and resistance to the Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI) that is being negotiated the countries belonging to the OECD. It is claimed that vital issues such as the relations between nation-states and transnational corporations, the limits of politics, the domain for the exercise of democracy, as well as the future of the environment, labor rights and the planet's cultural diversity are at stake in this treaty. It is argued that is spite of some changes that might be introduced -even if the treaty is not finally agreed upon -this text is an extraordinary synthesis, a clear expression of the current Global Agenda of transnational capital.
