The new Caribbean regionalism and integration process in the Americas
Main Article Content
Abstract
The present article analyzes the degree by which the new Caribbean regionalism is the answer to U.S. proposal of hemispheric integration. Traditionally, the Caribbean integration expression has been synonymous for English-speaking Caribbean integration, whose institutional expression has been, since 1973, the Caribbean community, CARICOM. However, a new form of regionalism has risen in the 1990s. The Association of the Caribbean creation in 1994 has set the institutions. Also, it is argued that the new wave of regionalism in the Caribbean basin, at least for Latin America and CARICOM, is a reactive answer to NAFTA and the ALCA.
