Argentina’s 2019 presidential elections.The triumph of the Frente de Todos, the defeat of Juntos por el Cambio and its future challenges

Abstract

The article analyses Argentina’s 2019 presidential elections, trying to answer the question: Which are the factors that explain the triumph of the Frente de Todos and the defeat of Juntos por el Cambio? Having regard to the young vote, certain aspects of the social structure, international relations with both the hegemonic powers and States of the region, and political parties, the paper points out a number of elements that allow to explain the results of the elections and identify future political challenges. Among other factors, the effects of the economic crisis and the process of regional and national political polarization in which the elections take place stand out.
