Abstract

We deliver this issue in tribute to our dear colleague Miguel Concha Malo, who shared with us decades of work with his critical appraisals and anguish over the future of unresolved problems in Latin America. His deep knowledge of the popular reality of our region was always an orientation for the Latin Americanists of the Center for Latin American Studies and the Graduate Program in Latin American Studies of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). When Miguel Concha wrote or intervened on a situation, he enriched us with the perspective of valuing the action of the great majority, especially because for him, culture, beliefs, the defense of human rights and the ethical values of religions were the filter with which said majorities acted socially and politically. Furthermore, our colleague had a perception of the needs and popular feelings that allowed us to understand the complex processes of community resistance of the great masses to the authoritarianism, impositions and manipulations of the reactionary elites of the States that were inclined to apply neoliberal policies in the last decades. Miguel Concha leaves us a legacy of thought, action and ethics fundamental to critical Latin American studies.
