Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the relation between Personality Disorders (PD) and alcoholism. People with PD's (APA, 2001) have alterations in cognitive functions, affects, impulse control and interpersonal activity. Due to these characteristics, in occasions they consume alcohol or drugs in a compulsive way, which aggravates their sympatomatology and worsen the prognostic. To evaluate the association between TP's and alcoholism, 30 alcoholic subjects and 50 non-alcoholic subjects where evaluated with two self-report questionnaires: The PDQ-4+ to assess PD's and another scale to assess behavior during infancy. Results reveal that there is an association between PD's and alcoholism and that people with alcoholism and TP's have higher scores of psychopathology during infancy.
