Abstract

The present study describes the evaluation of the sensibility and effectiveness of a structured assessment procedure within a parent training package geared toward to teaching the effective use of social contingences. This parent training package was implemented with six parents with children whose age ranged from five to twelve years and that presented a wide variety of behavior problems. The skills that were trained were the following: instruction giving, use of teaching instructions, helping with homework assignment and the use of punishment procedures. Two general teaching strategies were employed: general and specific instructions as well as shaping. Results suggest that the procedure is an effective strategy for teaching generalizable parenting skills, that allows the use of analog training situations that closely resemble that natural environment
