Abstract

The main aim of this article is to analyze the public opinion about electoral polls in a discursive way. According to this, the objective was understanding why people mistrust electoral polls, what key aspects can generate aversion, why people want to be, or not, a survey respondent, if people monitor this type of surveys, if electoral polls can influence the vote, what role mass media play in this process. Then, the final analysis evinces how some social and demographic variables, like level of studies or the age, can determine the Spanish people´s interest, utility, knowledge or social perception about this researching technique.

Elena Fernández Martín, Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Doctor in Journalism from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), obtained her degree thesis on election polls. She completed a Master of investigative techniques applied social sciences at the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas
(CIS), and graduated in Teaching of Primary Education and Foreign Language. Currently, she teaches various subjects related to the analysis and research methods in the areas of Communication and Education. Taught these subjects at undergraduate and degrees of Advertising and Journalism at the Centro Universitario Villanueva (attached to the UCM), and grades of teaching and undergraduate Psychology at Don Bosco ces (UCM). She participated in the creation of various teaching materials in the field of study identified; participated in the publication of the book Basics of Educational Research Methodology. elenafdezmartin@gmail.com

María Lourdes Vinuesa Tejero, Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Doctor in Information Sciences from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). It belongs to the VI Department of Sociology, in the Facultad de Ciencias de la Información (UCM). In 2013, she was editor of the famous work La reina del mundo.
