Author Biography

Pablo González Casanova, UNAM

Doctor in Sociology from the University of Paris in 1950. His teaching has combined with productive research activity since 1948. In 1957 he was appointed director of the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, and in 1970 he was elected rector of the UNAM. In 1986 he founded and directed for eight years the Centro de Investigaciones Interdisciplinarias en Ciencias y Humanidades of the unam (CEIICH). In May 1984, he was honored as Investigador y Profesor Emérito, UNAM. For his extensive theoretical and academic work has received several awards: the José Martí Prize by UNESCO (2003) and the Orden José Martí in the First Degree, the highest honor of the Government of Cuba (2004). Some of his most outstanding works are: Las nuevas ciencias y las humanidades: de la academia a la política, 2004, and La democracia en México, 1965. casanova@servidor.unam.mx
