As the recent events of financial markets become further unmoored from historical experience, mainstream economists have been speaking ever more in the terms of Hollywood, replete with supernovas, zombis and black holes. This brief article jumps into the land of metaphor in attempt to explain these related metaphors and give them coherence and a grounding in economic thought and reality.
