Abstract

The project of the towers of Mexico City’s Metropolitan Cathedral, carried out by José Damián Ortiz de Castro, is still very important. Although certainly limited in time, it was worthy of a “pioneer”. Understanding and delving closer into this project of his, remembering his contributions and giving new life to the singular importance his work had on 18th-century architecture are topics worthy of the attention of specialists, particularly in the context of the recent discovery of a time capsule within the sphere that still crowns the Eastern tower.
