TEACHING PHILOSOPHY AND MEANINGFUL LEARNING

Abstract
This paper explores the meaningful learning approach to teaching philosophy. It begins with a short definition of
meaningful learning. Then, it exposes some problems with rote learning, such as when the new information is stored arbitrarily in cognitive structure and when prejudices work to misunderstand concepts. Finally, it is proposed the need and relevance that students understand the meaning of key philosophical concepts to develop critical thinking skills.
