Globalization or imperialism?

Abstract

Several factors have contributed in recent years to speed up the global outreach of capitalism: 1) rapid growth of international liquidity prompted by 2) application of new information technologies to financial as well trade transactions, as well by 3) states involvement in the making up of institutional conditions for trans-frontier expansion of capitalism (such as de-regulation of foreign trade, privatization of stated-owned assets, along with political and military direct foreign interventions). The papers focus globalization as the contemporary manifestation of imperialism, calling attention to both continuities and ruptures between the later and the former. The strategic role of some states as well multilateral agencies in promoting globalization is also emphasized.
