Abstract

In this article I examine local security (safekeeping) and self-defense quarters in the middle of violence and abuse in Mexico. Based on an ethnographic work with Triquis women in mexican Oaxaca state –victims of more than 40 years of armed conflict–, I explore some other forms of security (safekeeping) that autonomy could bring in. I also look into gender and power hierarchy as an effect of the State violence over the indigenous regions.
