Abstract

The aims of this article were to elaborate an explanatory proposal about the homosexual behavior from a bio-psycho-social integrative approach. The homosexuality behavior is conceived as a natural fact of the sexuality, since it is present in nearly all the kinds of vertebrate. It is considered that it has an evolutionary sense within the great plasticity of the sexual conduct in the phylum of the superior mammals; so its presence does not connote abnormality or pathology. This proposal is denominated theory of the demographic pressure and the natural patterns of the homosexual behavior, for emphasizing its aspects more distinctive as compared to other kindred formulations. The natural pattern of the homosexual behavior is temporary, alternative to heterosexual conduct and probably this latter dominates throughout the life of most of the subjects with homosexual behaviors. The social dynamics, the built meanings, the expectations and the personal integration will determine if these behaviors will be a temporary or permanent, exclusive or alternated pattern. What the genes determine is the plasticity and adaptability of the sexual behavior to the contexts, though certain biochemical events in the neurodevelopment can facilitate the manifestation of the pattern. This will appeared in the contexts where has an adaptive function, as excess of population, confinement or situations of exclusion with members of the same sex, hierarchic submission and mitigation of the stress or loneliness.
