Abstract

The mortality of elderly people in an institution generally it was analysed with case studies or descriptive statistics comparing sex, place of birth or ailment, whitout questioning the data’s source. In this research the results are reported by a day to day analysis of the deaths of elderly people in two institutions during the period of 1992 to 2002. A definition of the serial deaths is proposed, and showed by a group of dendograms in which the original data’s distribution is compared to chance distribution. Using Student’s T statistical test diferencies between the compared series were found in the two cases. The results seem to confirm our observatios about what we call “serial death”.
