Determinants of remittances: An analysis based on households run by Mexican women immigrants in the United States

Abstract
This article aims to present an analysis of the socio-demographic determinants of remittances among Mexican women who are the head of households in the United States. Particularly, descriptive and inferential statistics and information of the special module on international migration and remittances from the Current Population Survey (CPS), 2008 is employed; It is estimated that the amount of money, remittance frequency and determining factors, of remittance transfers among Mexican women head of households, from a comparative perspective with other immigrants in the United States. Results indicate that Mexican women who are 40 years or over, with high school education, less residence time (under 10 years) having lived in households with higher incomes in the United States are more likely to send money their hometowns in Mexico.
