The environmental pedagogy: a new educational paradigm

Abstract

In this essay, there is debate regarding the necessity to build a new educational paradigm concerning environmental education, considering as part of the required changes in the world in order to face the crisis of civilization.

To achieve this the starting point is the debate on the articulation of the disciplines in a meta-discipline; and integration of scientific knowledge with the “unscientific” in the context of the loss of term of the old positivist model. Thus, the process of teaching and learning is set from the perspective of the socio-environmental complexity.

Subsequently, environmental pedagogy it is explained through the conversion of the scientific paradigm into a new popular knowledge, which should be based on education for compatibility-sustainability by generating multidimensional dialogues to move towards a new educational model. We conclude in the need of promoting social environmental learning communities as an anchor of this environmental pedagogy.
