Abstract

The human body is expression, presence, language and finitude. We are from our body; nevertheless, this truth does not become so evident when we speak about the place the body occupies in higher education, specifically, if we take as a sample the case of the UAM-Xochimilco. In this research, we sustain that the human body, which is not only biology, in which we live but also is constructed and lived symbolically, is not taken in account as such at the university level. On the contrary, we find great negligence to include the human body as part of our pedagogy as a tool for learning. What this work fosters is an approach to teachers’ perceptions of a specific institution and their contribution of ideas of how to create a new university conscience about the body.
