Individual Quantum Systems
The Nobel Prize in Physics for 2012 was awarded to Serge Haroche and David J. Wineland “for ground-breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems”. The former deals with photons and measures them with atoms and the latter deals with ions and manipulates them with photons.
