Abstract

A sequence of activities for the teaching of ionic bond was developed following both the modelling-based teaching and the electrostatic model theoretical backgrounds. Such activities were used in a medium level classroom (16-18 years old students) from a public Brazilian school. Data were collected from video-recording of the class, and written material produced by students. They supported the proposition of case studies for each group of students. From the analysis of the case studies, we discuss how the teaching activities favoured students learning about ionic bond.
